(Fare, Huahine, Society Islands, French Polynesia)
Fool me once… shame on no one!
I’m totally down for a little lie if there’s cake involved. Therefore Ceasar remains squarely filed away in my good books.
Yesterday, before we all parted ways, Ceasar let it be known that today was his birthday. A factoid we cheerfully accepted, while making plans to regroup for celebratory drinks tonight.
Then, earlier today, we noticed Fraya pull into the anchorage. We hadn’t properly hung out with Oyvin and Tina since Fatu Hiva, way back in the Marquesas, so we were stoked to invite them along to Happy Hour and the ensuing birthday celebrations.
As the sun began to set this evening, we all converged on the Yacht Club. With the Hinano’s going down easy, we met Liz. Liz is a celebrity in the sailing/surfing world. She regularly graces the pages of Latitude 38 and was recently named one of National Geographic’s Adventurers of the Year. Over multiple consecutive years here in French Polynesia, she has made Huahine somewhat of a home, and as a result, she knows when Ceasar’s birthday is not.
And today it wasn’t.
Like I said though, I’m down for a cleverly planned fake birthday. The truth did not rain on my parade! We returned to Oceanna, baked the cake, lit the candles, sung Happy Birthday to “no one”, and honestly devoured the delicious faux treat.
