(Hanamoenoa Bay, Tahuata, Marquesas, French Polynesia)
Back during Gregory’s coconut crab obsession in Fatu Hiva he began to collect the husked and hollowed coconuts that were driving his beliefs. Not only did it offer him something semi-productive to do during an otherwise fruitless venture into crab hunting, it gathered the necessary equipment for today’s First Annual Hanamoenoa Beach Coconut Bocce Winner-Takes-All-The-Marbles Extravaganza!
Although hollowed out coconuts do not resemble a bocce ball in weight, their size and affordability make them ideal for a cruiser’s tournament on the beach.
While Greg made the rounds notifying the entire anchorage of the official kickoff time, I jazzed up the coconuts to make team lines clear.
When the sand finally settled and the sun began to set there was no clear winner to be crowned – a good thing to because the tournament name was a little misleading on the actual presence of any marbles to be taken. What we did have was a couple of busted up coconuts, some new friends, and many more great memories to add to the vault.
